As a major center of protests over the past year, the University of Michigan has made headlines in the wake of the October 7 attacks and the Israel-Hamas war. University President Santa J. Ono and Rabbi Cosgrove will discuss the challenges of the past year and how the university leadership works to build and foster a safe campus community.

Santa J. Ono, Ph.D., is president of the University of Michigan and a vision researcher recognized for pioneering work on the immune system and eye disease. He chairs the University of Michigan Health Board, Fulbright Canada, and the University Climate Change Coalition. He is an honorary chair of the Japan America Society of Michigan and Southwestern Ontario. Previously, he was president and vice chancellor of the University of British Columbia.
