One of the happiest traditions at Park Avenue Synagogue, the Purim Spiel, has long been an opportunity to nurture young talent – notably the then-aspiring songwriting team of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in 1924. Also included in that list are Ryan House and Daniel Schwartz, who performed this song on Kol Nidrei.
The words of this song are drawn from a Sephardi piyyut full of longing and hope: “Ben adam ma l'kha nirdam kum k'ra b'tahanunim (Humankind – why do you sleep? Rise and weep, your soul to keep).”
Join us on Monday at the Purim Spiel to witness new talent. Wishing you a happy Purim!
Featuring: Ryan House and Daniel Schwartz with Cantor Azi Schwartz
Composer: Shmuel Perednik
Arrangement: Oran Eldor, commissioned by PAS Music Center
Music director: David Enlow
AV: Oscar Acevedo, Terrell Simms, Erik Van Batavia, Justin Goodman
Video editor: Tami Shaham

Kuando el Rey Nimrod
This enchanting song tells the story of Abraham’s birth through evocative Ladino poetry and is traditionally sung at a bris. We’d like to wish a big mazal tov to Cantor Arielle & Dr. Adin Reisner on the birth and bris of their son, Jesse Emet. We hope you enjoy the energy of this song.

New Day Will Rise
This song’s message unites three types of grieving: personal mourning, grief at the state of our world, and collective grief at an unjust death. First performed at Eurovision in 2025, when there were hostages and warfare in Gaza, Cantor Schwartz sang this rendition immediately following the death...
