Ya Ribon is a prayer that connects the universal to the particular, from the immeasurable scale of the ruler of rulers to the local sacredness of Jerusalem. It is included in the siddur for home use – as Rabbi Cosgrove says in this video, “It's traditional on a Friday night and Shabbat day that you should take out a siddur and you should sing Shabbos z'mirot, Shabbos songs, at your dinner table…if you know a thing or two about Cantor Schwartz, then you know that he married then Miss Presler, now Dr. Schwartz to all of us, but this is the melody of Ya Ribon that was sung from table to table in the Presler family.”
This year, we are highlighting exciting ways to celebrate Shabbat during Shabbat Across PAS, Park Avenue Synagogue’s new initiative! Go to pasyn.org/shabbat to learn more.
