Following the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin – whose 30th yahrzeit we observe this week – Naomi Shemer translated Walt Whitman's poem “O Captain! My Captain!” into Hebrew and set it to music. Whitman wrote the poem after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. May the memory of our fallen leaders continue to guide us toward peace.
