A New York Synagogue Pays Tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, 1926-2022
2m 25s
This week, as we welcomed "Shabbat the Queen," Rabbi Cosgrove spoke about the effect of the monarch’s passing on all who grew up with her as head of state, including the Rabbi’s own parents. Her devotion to duty, wartime service, personal faith, and long service to her peoples have been a source of inspiration to many.
Cantor Schwartz closed the service with Shalom Aleichem to the tune of “God Save the Queen” – Shalom Aleichem conspicuously mentions God as the “sovereign of sovereigns.” The image of an anointed monarch is powerful and lasting.
May her memory be for a blessing, and may those who mourn be comforted.
