Featuring leading theater stars, the production Shabbat on Broadway was an inclusive experience that blended prayer and inspirational show tunes – the first time a Shabbat service has taken place on the Broadway stage. Produced by Amanda Lipitz and Henry Tisch, with creative and liturgical input by Cantor Schwartz, this event fostered a sense of togetherness during a challenging time for Jews worldwide.
It began with a video of NYC cantors convened by Cantor Schwartz, who sang Hinei ma Tov to "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'," which was quite fitting for an event taking place at the St. James Theatre, the site of Oklahoma’s original premier.
Cantors on this video (in order of appearance):
Azi Schwartz, Mira Davis (Park Avenue Synagogue); Jenna Pearsall (Central Synagogue); Irena Altschul (Temple Israel); Daniel Singer (Stephen Wise Free Synagogue); Mo Glazman (Temple Emanuel); Shiree Kidron (Or Olam); Shimon Smith (Romemu); Shayna De Lowe (Congregation Rodeph Sholom); Todd Kipnis (Temple Shaaray Tefila); Natasha Hirschorn (Ansche Chesed); Olivia Brodsky (East End Temple); Luis Cattan (Sutton Place Synagogue)
Music: Richard Rodgers, arr. by Oran Eldor, Hebrew setting by Cantor Azi Schwartz
Music Director: David Enlow
PAS AV Team: Oscar Acevedo, Terrell Simms, Oli Jung, Erik van Batavia, Justin Goodman
Video Editing: Silent Dog Pictures

Our hearts are with those who have suffered and...

What the World Needs Now Is Love
Burt Bacharach (1928–2023) was a star in the firmament of Jewish songwriting that rose over New York through the 20th century, from the Brill Building to Broadway, to the Hit Parade and beyond. As we approach Bacharach’s yahrzeit, his beautiful, wistful setting of the lyrics of his frequent colla...
