Thousands of years ago, Abraham carefully negotiated his involvement in his hosts’ society and his fidelity to his own traditions when he uttered the phrase, “I am a stranger and a citizen together with you.” This verse has inspired Jews throughout the generations, from Abraham through the early days of America and to our current times.
